St. Mary's week 3 (19.08.24-22.08.24)
August 23, 2024
Week 3 Reflection: August 19, 2024 - August 22, 2024
August 19, 2024: High Court and Subordinate Courts
This week began with a lesson on the High Court and Subordinate Courts in India. I introduced the judicial system at the state level and explained the differences between the High Court and the various subordinate courts, such as District Courts and Magistrate Courts. The students were keen to understand the roles these courts play in ensuring justice at the local level. To make this topic more relatable, I used a comparison chart to explain the hierarchical structure of the judiciary. This helped clarify the distinctions between the courts, their functions, and jurisdiction. The class was interactive, with students asking questions about specific cases and the jurisdiction of different courts. This lesson reinforced the importance of the judicial system in safeguarding rights and maintaining law and order in society.
August 21, 2024: Introduction to Ancient Tamilakam
On August 21, I began teaching a new chapter titled “Ancient Tamilakam”. This chapter explores the rich cultural and historical aspects of the Tamil region in ancient India. I started by providing background information on the geographical boundaries, the people, and the early political structures. I used a map to show the location of Tamilakam in ancient India and highlighted key cities that played important roles. I also discussed the Tamil kingdoms, their rulers, and the significance of the region in ancient history. The students showed a lot of interest, especially when I discussed the ancient Tamil culture and its unique features. To make the content engaging, I used images and visual aids to showcase artifacts from the period. The students enjoyed learning about the ancient Tamil societies, and I encouraged them to think about how early civilizations influenced the development of modern Indian culture.
August 23, 2024: School Youth Festival and End of the 1st Phase of Teaching Practice
On August 23, there was no regular class as the school hosted the Youth Festival. This event was a great opportunity for the students to showcase their talents in various cultural activities. Though I wasn’t directly involved in the festival activities, I observed the students’ enthusiasm and how it fostered a sense of community and creativity. It was a memorable day for the students, and they shared their experiences with me during the breaks. This also marked the end of the first phase of my teaching practice. Looking back at this phase, I felt a sense of achievement as I had successfully delivered lessons on a variety of topics, including the judiciary and ancient history. I received valuable feedback from Ms. Jacquiline Ma'am and Dr. Bindu B, both of whom encouraged me to continue refining my teaching methods and to engage the students even more actively in discussions.
Reflection:
This week was a significant one, as it involved both the end of the first phase of my teaching practice and the introduction of a new chapter on Ancient Tamilakam. The class on the High Court and Subordinate Courts went smoothly, and I felt more confident in explaining legal concepts. The students were able to grasp the structure of the judiciary and its importance.
