BEd journey At St. John's week 08 (03.01.25- 04.01.25) February 05, 2025 Week 8 Reflection: February 3, 2025 - February 4, 2025    February 3, 2025: Achievement Test   Chapters Covered: Through the Sandy Expanse, Towards a Gender-Neutral Society, Along the Coast  On February 3rd, I conducted the Achievement Test for the students of 8D and 9D, covering the chapters Through the Sandy Expanse, Towards a Gender-Neutral Society, and Along the Coast. The test had 25-mark questions and lasted 40 minutes. We discussed the significance of Islands in India, particularly focusing on their geographical, ecological, and strategic importance. The use of the Advanced Organiser Model helped the students make connections between the coastal regions, islands, and their environmental and cultural relevance. The students seemed engaged as I explained the unique features of India's islands, including their climate, ecosystems, and how they contribute to India's biodiversity. I introduced the students to the concept of megaliths, explaining how large stone structures were used by ancient civilizations, particularly in the Indian subcontinent, as burial sites and markers for important events. We discussed various types of megalithic monuments, such as dolmens, menhirs, and cairns, and where they have been found. I also emphasized the importance of these monuments as a valuable source of information about ancient cultures. I introduced the judicial system at the state level and explained the differences between the High Court and the various subordinate courts, such as District Courts and Magistrate Courts. The students were keen to understand the roles these courts play in ensuring justice at the local level. To make this topic more relatable, I used a comparison chart to explain the hierarchical structure of the judiciary. This helped clarify the distinctions between the courts, their functions, and jurisdiction. BEd journey St. Johns week 2 (12.08.24- 16.08.24) August 17, 2024  Week 2 Reflection: August 12, 2024 - August 16, 2024 August 12, 2024: Executive, President, Vice President and Their Functions   This week, we started by discussing the Executive branch of the government, focusing on the President and Vice President of India. I explained their roles and functions, such as the President's constitutional duties and the role of the Vice President as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. I used a graphic organizer to help students visualize the functions of both positions and how they contribute to the government system. The class responded well to this method, and many students asked insightful questions about the powers of the President. My mentor, Ms. Jacquiline, recommended incorporating real-life examples to make the discussion even more relatable, which I plan to do in upcoming lessons. BEd journey St. Johns week 1 (05.08.24- 09.08.24) August 09, 2024 Teaching Practice at St. Mary's HSS (August 5 - August 9, 2024) The first week of my teaching practice at st John's has been an enriching experience, both in terms of subject knowledge and teaching methods. Under the guidance of my mentor, Ms. Jacquiline, I had the opportunity to teach the chapter 'Our Government' to my 8A1 class. The topics covered this week were diverse and provided me with a platform to experiment with various teaching strategies to engage the students. August 5th: Organs of Government (Advanced Organiser Model)   I began the week by introducing the Organs of Government using the Advanced Organiser Model. The objective was to provide students with a clear framework of the three main branches of the government: the Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary. I used a graphic organiser to map out how each organ functions and interacts with the others, which helped students visually connect th...

Day 4 at St. Johns

BEd journey Day 04 at St. Johns August 08, 2024 As days passes the connection between students and me gets more and more deeper and communications seemed easy. Today i discussed the portion 'procedure of passing a money bill and state legislature. I already prepared a systematic lesson plan and collected contemporary incidents and happenings about the topic. I could complete the topic timely and thus the revision of the topic could be done. Interactive mode of teaching was employed in the class and also i could realize my class management has been better.  Today after the class i got to identify certain requirements for making my class better like working on making class more interactive and interesting. For the day 2 extra duties were assigned which is kitchen duty and noon meal serving duty.  At night i prepared for the next class. Day 3 at sr johns

Day 03 at St. Johns August 07, 2024  On the 3rd day, periods assigned to me was both 3rd and 6th hour in 8A1 class. As examination is scheduled for next month i was supposed to take portions quickly. Today i could complete very important portion of the chapter 'Our government' which is the various stages of passing a bill in the parliament. I could provide students with better reinforcement. The teaching techniques like repetition of facts, prompting questions was used effectively. I felt that my efficiency in time management has been better than the past 2 days. I reflected my teaching limitations and found out that i can use both negative and positive reinforcement appropriately, Also the need to add more activities in the classroom. Today i did the morning line duty from 8.45am to 9.15am. Then i assisted in the kitchen chores like peeling potatoes and onions.

2nd day at school

2nd day at school August 06, 2024  Day 02 at St. Mary's On the 2nd day the school routine started by signing the attendance sheet kept in the office room and then heading to the allotted rest place for student trainees (school auditorium). From the auditorium, the power point presentations and other preparations for today's class. I got to take 2 periods in 8A1, 5th period and 7th period. I tried to improve the drawbacks i found during yesterday's teaching. I took the topic legislature in India.  Today school noon meal serving duty was assigned which i did happily along with my classmates

First day at St Johns

BEd journey First day at school August 05, 2024  Day 01- First day at School On the first day at school 24 teacher trainees of Mar Theophilus training college, Nalanchira met at the school auditorium, then we headed to the headmistress's office and later to prnincipal's room. After signing the register i headed to meet my assigned teacher Ms. Jacquiline Praseela. On the 5th period i started my teaching journey in 8A1 class.  A total of 4 duties are assigned to the teacher trainees, they are, Morning line duty, kitchen duty, noon meal serving duty and evening line duty. Also, substitution hours released in every morning should be taken responsible by the trainees. It was decided that each day the list of duties and assigned list of trainees would be published.

BEd journey At Ar gorettis - Week 2 (18.11.24- 22.11.24) November 22, 2024  Week 2 Reflection: November 18, 2024 - November 22, 2024 November 18, 2024: Geographical Categorization of the Thar Desert   In today’s class, we focused on the geographical categorization of the Thar Desert. I explained how the Thar Desert is divided into different regions based on its topography, climate, and vegetation. We discussed the arid, semi-arid, and hyper-arid zones, and how each zone differs in terms of rainfall, soil, and vegetation. To help students understand, I used a combination of maps and diagrams, and we had a discussion on the regions within the Thar Desert that are suitable for human habitation versus those that are uninhabitable. The students seemed to grasp the concept well, but some struggled with distinguishing between the different categories of aridity. We discussed the seasonal changes in the desert and how these seasons impact both the environment and the lives of people living there. I explained the monsoon season as a brief but important period of rainfall, and how the winter season brings relief from the extreme heat. To make the lesson more engaging, I incorporated weather patterns and temperature graphs to show the differences in climate during these seasons. Students found it interesting to learn how the desert's climate shapes the survival strategies of plants, animals, and humans. 3rd semester BED camp 2024

BEd journey 3rd Semester B Ed Camp 2024 December 07, 2024   3rd Semester B Ed Camp 2024  Mar Theophilus training college in association with N S S organised this year's camp between 1st December to 7th December. The theme of the camp was "Youth for my Bharat Youth for Sustainable Development". The name given to the camp was Punarjani 360°. A couple of outreach programmes were organised as a part of the camp to the locations like soil museum, natural history museum and vettinad souhrida village. A number of talk sessions were organised as a part of the camp. Esteemed faculties from various corners of the society actively engaged with us through these talks. Overall the camp was a delightful experience for all of us. Some valuable insights were learned through this camp❤️

The topic I focused on was 'Along, specifically the structure of the Indian coastal plain and its various divisions. To make this geographical concept more engaging and easily understandable for the students, I created a 3D model that depicted the divisions of the Indian Coastal Plain in a visually appealing manner. The aim of this model was to give the students a clear and interactive representation of the Indian Coastal Plain and its divisions, which can often be challenging to visualize through textbooks alone. BEd journey Tour of 2023-25 batch January 21, 2025  Tour of 2023-25 batch The long tour of Mar Theophilus training college was finalised to the destinations Dandeli and Goa. The Journey began on 29 th October and ends on 3rd November 2024. The trip covered the water activities and campfire at Dandeli and Beaches of Goa, Aguada Fort and old Church Goa. It took 5 days to complete the journey. Maya teacher and Meekha teacher accompanied us throughout the journey.
